SING Nigeria has received approval of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in partnership with the Center for Center for Policy Advocacy and Leadership Development, to monitor elections in the entire Niger Delta states for the 2019 season. The Organisation will have its monitors on ground in all the states of the Niger Delta to provide first hand report on proceedings.
SING, in furtherance of its strategic focus on good governance, would be keeping a close eye on proceedings especially with a view to reporting its findings to the relevant authorities, stakeholders and actors on the election process. This monitoring exercise would be in keeping with SING’s tradition of being involved in elections in the areas of voter education, voter mobilization advocacy, violence reporting and prevention among others.
The team to be deployed, numbering about 300 personnel and volunteers, has been trained and given the SING template for election monitoring. The team members were tasked by the management of SING to be of the highest standards of ethical conduct during the course of their assignment and to ensure that they put the resources at their disposal, especially the SING Foundation Voters Report mobile application, for accurate reporting of happenings during the elections.
SING also commends the major actors for the final signing ceremony of the peace pact, while reserving special appreciation for the National Peace Committee. The organization urges all eligible Nigerians to come out in their numbers to exercise their constitutionally guaranteed franchise and to eschew any violence or illegalities during the election.
